All Hands on Deck: The Systemic Erasure of the American Voter

On the 4th of July, we are often asked to celebrate a version of America that exists more in theory than in practice. As we navigate a landscape where voter disenfranchisement is actively celebrated by its supporters, we must reimagine what liberty truly looks like. The reality is that we are witnessing a “silent coup”— not through a single event, but through the steady criminalization of the polling place.

The machinery of the state is being recalibrated. We see this in the shift of election oversight from the Civil Rights Division to the Criminal Division. This isn’t just a bureaucratic change; it is a declaration that the voter is now a suspect. When we allow ICE presence at polling places and demand “total information sharing” between DMV databases and federal investigators, we aren’t protecting “election integrity.” We are building a surveillance net designed to catch those the system has already marginalized.

Chief Justice John Roberts has led a decades-long quest to dismantle the Voting Rights Act, and the results are clear: the “voter fraud” narrative has become a Trojan Horse for state-sponsored suppression.

Call to Action: I've always exclaimed we cannot take our rights for granted. We must demand change that is structural: expand the Supreme Court to twelve justices? Abolish the Electoral College to ensure voices carry equal weight?

The power of the ballot must belong to the many, not the select few. Democracy's sanity and integrity depend on it.
